Ones de llum y so

The Caja Castellón Foundation presents an exhibition dedicated to José Antonio Orts, a key figure in the development of sound and electronic art in Spain. The exhibition brings together a selection of recent installations in which the artist explores the relationship between sound, light, space and perception through interactive structures that are triggered by the viewer’s presence.

Trained at the Valencia Conservatory of Music and having subsequently specialised in electroacoustic music at institutions such as the Phonos laboratory in Barcelona and Radio France’s Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM), Orts has developed a unique artistic practice that lies at the intersection of composition, installation and technological research. His work is characterised by the creation of sensory environments in which light and sound function as sculptural materials capable of transforming space.

The pieces on display in the exhibition are based on an organic and dynamic concept of installation. Far from remaining static, the works react to the presence and movement of the public, creating variations in light and sound that make each visit a unique experience. Visitors thus cease to play a passive role and become an active part of the work.

Throughout his career, José Antonio Orts has developed a a7> language of his own based on the interaction between electronic systems, sound composition and spatial perception. His installations propose a precise relationship between form, rhythm and behaviour, giving rise to immersive environments where technology and sensitivity coexist in balance.

Internationally renowned, Orts’ work has been exhibited in museums, institutions and centres for art in various countries, consolidating a pioneering research which continues to be a benchmark within the contemporary practices related to sound, light and interaction.
