Luis Adelantado Valencia is pleased to invite you to the opening of Darío Villalba ‘ s solo exhibition, Aquí, which will take place on April 7th .
Darío Villalba (1939, San Sebastián) is an unavoidable reference for understanding art after the Informalist generation of the 1950s. His response to this ism opened a breach in the conception of the artistic world itself, conceptualising new ways of working.
A pioneer in the use of photography as painting, emulsified, intervened and transformed, his work has been recognised by the most important art institutions. In 1970, at the XXXV Venice Biennale, he presented his encapsulations, which brought him international fame and artistic transcendence. For the constant excellence of his work, he has been awarded several prizes, including the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts awarded by the King of Spain in 2002 and the National Prize for Fine Arts in 2003.
For this, his fifth solo exhibition at Luis Adelantado Valencia, Villalba presents more than 40 new pieces, in which he travels a path from the reinterpretation of the past – through his archetypal basic documents – towards a new vision in which, as a novelty, he will show us some of his works in which he takes up the colour of the original documents from the 1980s. Undoubtedly, these are not so usual pieces in Villalba’s universe, completed with the lights and shadows of a neat black and white.
Algunas de sus exposiciones más relevantes han sido; An International Survey of Contemporary Art to Open at Museum of Modern Art, MoMa (Nueva York, 1984), Darío Villalba.
It is alsoworth mentioning his presence in national and international collections: Metropolitan Museum (New York), Solomon R. Guggeheim Museum (New York), AENA Collection (Madrid), Fundación Juan March (Palma de Mallorca), MNCARS (Madrid).
