Luis Adelantado Valencia is pleased to present—for the first time in the city— the solo exhibitions of Juan López and Carlos Maciá, entitled Brea Flúor. The name of the exhibition deliberately frames both approaches, created specifically for our gallery’s spaces and which are the result of a montage that confronts both works.
In both cases, the artists have displayed their own spatial interventions, emphasizing certain contextual urban peculiarities, contrasting them against the gallery’s own architecture.
Juan Lopez has conducted, on this occasion, a specific intervention in our gallery’s Room1, where the city becomes part of the interior of the exhibition space. Interested in strokes that define and delimit circulation spaces in the city, he proposes a deconstruction of reality in order to create new views on the state of affairs. This in situ work—set up in Room 4—is complemented with a series of collages and sculptural elements, which function as sketches of impossible interventions.
Carlos Maciá has presented three interventions. A first which refers us to his recent approach to Pichaçao, an original manifestation of the Brazilian city of São Paulo, where the artist has discovered a drastic phagocytosis of urban space and which he here displays in Room 2. In the next room, he introduces us to a set of pieces from his Markers series, which operate as a large single piece, a result of the association between them in his own workspace. And finally, he has conducted a minimal pictorial intervention on the railing running along the building’s staircase, accompanying us throughout our visit and thereby creating a link among the different displays.
