The Luis Adelantado gallery in Valencia is pleased to present the third solo exhibition of the well-known Costa Rican artist Priscilla Monge. For this occasion the artist presents a new project entitled Este es un lugar seguro(This is a safe place ).
Monge, a well-known artist from the Latin American post-conceptual scene of the 1990s, transforms our expectations, subverts the hierarchies of power and the meaning we give to the objects that accompany us every day to reflect on themes such as violence, morality, the search for identity, women and the confrontation of the public and private spheres in our individual lives and in society.
For this occasion, through media and languages as diverse and forceful as sculpture, neon light, drawing and text among others, Monge constructs an exhibition in which he generates a confrontation between real and spiritual space. An enveloping journey that invites the viewer to ask questions about violence and intimacy.
The pieces are situated between the verbal and the visual dimension of the sign. As she herself tells us: “they are in a fractal space, that space between the word and the image and vice versa. It is in that limit where art generates a safe place of spiritual search and surely of change”.
