Luis Adelantado Valencia is pleased to present Sevillian artist Concha Ybarra’s first solo exhibition in Valencia, Jardín oculto.
Concha is presenting an installation in which painting, drawing and pottery are combined with the aim of sketching and shaping this hidden garden. This term is linked by the artist to an emotional world that alludes to the organic character of ideas, shaping them into cellular forms by means of illusory lines. These are works of subtle boundaries and a very energetic chromatic profusion, which we can see in her canvases and papers as well as in her pottery.
Although her work starts from the intimate—from ideas that flow touching upon the oneiric—, there is in it a strong root that pulls it towards the earth, to the place where Concha has developed her career, Seville. In fact, the title Jardín oculto has a further meaning, that which refers to those magnificent spaces of abundance found in the private spaces of some Andalusian stately homes.
A garden as a place of retreat, meditation and passion, as an area of intimacy and absolute freedom. Concha defines—from a contemporary perspective—a series of spaces peppered with poetry, such as the gardens described by Federico García Lorca in his early 20th century publication Impressions and landscapes.
