Fuentesal & Arenillas return to Luis Adelantado with their new project entitled La resistencia del ello / Azul como una naranja which will be displayed in our gallery’s main space.
This exhibition is a continuation of the work they exhibited in our gallery under the title Why Animals Travel (2016), which they continued at the Blue Project Foundation in Barcelona with Gameshow / Playshow (2018). For this exhibition, they are presenting a new line of research into the installation-based nature of their work, which tensions the possibilities of the exhibition space.
The name Azul como una naranja refers not only to the predominant colour in their works, but alludes to a poem written by French poet Paul Éluard, from which artists reflect on language issues, the way in which we designate things and how these meanings can change according to the person reading them.
On this occasion, they have decided to resume their work based on chance and gambling, within the artistic sphere, as elements that are necessary to erode patterns from their immediate context by giving them new meanings. In this resignification process, they always allude to the theoretical and material duality they confront in the realms of drawing, emptiness and presence in the face of absence, a process which always starts with drawing, then being transferred to different materialities, searching for the meeting points that complement their games of opposites.

Julia Fuentesal (Huelva, 1986) and Pablo M. Arenillas (1989) graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Seville. They have held exhibitions including Gameshow / Playshow at the BlueProject Foundation (Barcelona, 2018), Why Animals Travel at Luis Adelantado (Valencia, 2017) and taken part in collective exhibitions such as the Cañada Blanch Foundation Award, La Nau (Valencia, 2018), Open studio uAva-C3A, Contemporary Creation Center of Andalusia (2018) as well as receiving scholarships like GlogauAir, Artists in Residence Program (Berlin, 2017), A secas, Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art (Seville, 2017).
