Luis Adelantado is pleased to present the artist Camila Oliveira Fairclough (Rio de Janeiro, 1979) with her first exhibition at our Valencian gallery: Un Dos One Two, a pictorial project presented in the gallery’s main space.
Camila’s work broadly revolves around the idea of painting. She reflects through her canvases—more than fifteen in this exhibition, all of them in different formats—, on which she paints enveloping coloured surfaces with phrases that emerge from her day to day life, interests and experience. The artist understands language as a form, as something objectual that transcends the canvas’s two dimensions. She is very interested in the relationship between words as objects and the content they encapsulate.
For her Un Dos One Two exhibition, the artist has focused on a series of phrases linked to the body in motion. These phrases evoke movement, an ethereal imaginary in which dance has a pulsing presence. Words become therefore autonomous images which are—as noted by the artist—also interlinked. In fact, she is very interested in the dialogue between them, both in terms of their content and formal relationship.
Quoting the artist’s own words: “My approach to abstraction is closely linked to the Brazilian neo-concrete movement, with artists such as Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Clark, who start from geometry and colour as a natural path to spatial conception, objects and performance. They absorbed the avantgarde in a very intuitive way. I feel close to this non-dogmatic and more experimental attitude”.
