Jorge Peris. Dark Man a lomos del Pájaro de Fuego

This specific project by Jorge Peris (Alzira, 1969) for gallery 6 of the IVAM has one of its bases in the structure of the exhibition hall itself. Starting from this space as a blank sheet of paper, with its diagonals, columns and staircase, Peris constructs a new singular and inhabited place, in which different times and places overlap in a single spatio-temporal dimension, thus converting the different elements that coexist into a single installation.
The artist’s return to Valencia in 2011 imbues the project with an autobiographical halo that takes on different ways of materialising, not only through the presence of particular elements from the immediate context, but also through the existence of artistic references linked to his formative years in the city of Valencia. One of the fundamental features of Peris’s project is the presence of opposing ideas or concepts, almost in the manner of conceptual pairs typical of philosophy, which make conflicts or dichotomies visible through relations of tension and balance.
